Hole Heart Cards

I have seen so many cards on Pinterest where the front of the the card had been cut out for a shape to be nested there. The trouble I find with cutting the front cover and attaching the shape to the back page is that there is not much room to write. I decided to make some cards that look like all the others but really just has an extra front panel. The panel and shape are just attached to the front of the card,

I used different techniques to achieve three different looks for the cards.
The first one is really easy.

The second card took a few more steps.

And the third card took a little more effort.

Foil Embossed

Another foil embossed card. I embossed some silver heavy duty wrapping paper then went over the raised areas with black StazOn ink. I painted the cardbase, flowers, and butterfly with turquoise Silks acrylic glaze by Luminart. The ribbon was colored with Salty Ocean Distress Stain. Quick and easy but really pretty.

Combining the Old with the New

I have been playing with my Inca Gold pastes that I got for Christmas while trying to use up some of the stuff in my ever growing pile of "stash". One of the downfalls of being able to think of cool crafty things to do with most everything I see it that I want to collect it ALL. Then life happens and I never get around to using half of it. Well, I am trying to destash. To make it a bit more fun, I am also using some of my new products along with the way.

Here are a few cards I made using old papers, die cuts, and glitter along with my new Inca Gold Turquoise and a new embossing folder from Spellbinder's. 

I cut these butterfly pieces out of some self adhesive paper that I bought on sale last year and have barely used. I tired a new twist on glittering them.

I used Liquid Pearls instead of a die cut here.
The background is embossed with the same Mbossabilities folder. 

Here you see the same types of butterflies on a leaf die cut and old patterned paper.

Shimmer

I played with my Inca Gold paste and got some cool shimmer. It may not show up well in the picture, but it is so cool in person.

All I used was white cardstock. I embossed this one with a Spellbinders Mbossabilities folder. Then I covered the edges of the cardbase with Inca Gold as well as the embossed panel. The texted and butterfly were covered with Perfect Pearls to add even more shimmer.

  

 This card was similar but I used an Anna Griffin embossing folder.

Embellished Shimmer Sheetz

So the embossed Shimmer Sheetz were nice, but I wanted to take it bit further.
I placed an adhesive sheet over the embossed Shimmer Sheetz and then pulled it off. The adhesive took the iridescent layer off of the raised areas and left a black film. You can still see the iridescence in the debossed areas of the panel.

I also stampe the black cardstock with VersaMark and applied different colors of Perfect Pearls. Such a lovely rich shimmer of colors!

I repeated the ink and Perfect Pearls on the cardbase.

So what did I do with the adhesive sheet that had all the pretty iridescent shine on it? I adhered it to cardstock then added glitter to the areas without the colored film. So cool!

I will have to show you how I did it another time. I have to take care of some family business. More details later.

Embossed Shimmer Sheetz Cards

Here are some cards I made a few weeks ago.

I had fun playing with Shimmer Sheetz. They are metallic sheets that come in a pack of 3. This set has an iridescent finish that is very pretty. They emboss wonderfully and add a regal effect to my projects.

I had planned to make some videos showing these cool Shimmer Sheetz but that will have to wait for now. (details later)

More Cross Cards

I have two more cross cards I made using the Fleur de lis cross cut file that I used in my last post. (you can get the free file in that post)

I also used the new Reverence embossing folder from Spellbinders. (I just love it)

The top card has Guilders's Paste rubbed over the raised areas using navy cardstock.

The bottom card was made with light blue cardstock and inked direct to paper with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

I love the different looks using the same tools.

Faux Resist on Foil Paper

I have shown many cards that I have made using this Faux Resist on foil paper. 

I made a video showing how it is done. I have never heard of anyone else doing this particular technique. I would appreciate a mention if you share the info on a video or blog post. THANKS!

Inking on raised embossing

Hello all. I made a couple of really quick videos showing how I ink on the embossed area of cards, It makes a really cool background.

Here is the short video showing how to ink on embossed metal or foil paper.

Just in case anyone wanted to know how I ink on these embossed areas, here is a quick tutorial. (less than 8 minutes)

Beautiful Butterflies

Whenever I see the phrase "beautiful butterfly", I think of Heimlich from A Bugs Life. That character was so funny.

Well. I have some more beautiful butterflies to share. I got a new Inkadinkado stamp set. It has lots of pretty butterflies.

For the outside, I stamped the butterflies in Black Archival ink and colored them in with my Distress Markers and a water brush. I cut them out and mounted them on a panel that I embossed and inked with Dusty Concord. Look close...I even stamped the background layer with the butterflies. :)

I added some butterflies to the corners on the inside and in the back.

I could not stop there! I had to do more...

Here is a blue and yellow card using Tumbled Glass and Scattered Straw.

I had so much fun with these stamps. I even had fun with my markers for a change. LOL

Glittery Butterflies

Well the "Open Rose" stuff is going well! I finally found a way to explain them that makes sense. :) I should have it all together in a few more days. 


In the meantime, I wanted to share a couple of glittery butterfly cards I made last week. I got some glitter embossing powder and, oh my, did I have FUN!

I also got some DCWV Mariposa patterned paper. It was so pretty and had such great gold foil images on it that I just had to dress up the rest of the card to go along with it.  :)   


I used a black card base and cut a turquoise blue mat. I stamped some flourishes on the mat and embossed them with gold glitter embossing powder. I used one of the sheets from the Mariposa mat stack. I added part of a gold doily and  a short strip of my new diamond edged design cut file that I cut in black. I cut one of my detailed butterflies and embossed it with turquoise embossing glitter. (It is sooo shiny in person)

More glittery butterflies on a dry embossed shape that I inked with gold chalk ink.

This paper was so pretty that I did not add anything. (These 2 cards were made using one of the 12 by 12 Mariposa papers that I cut down. )

I can tell that I am going to love this paper pack!
(Yes, I know it has been around for a while, but it is new to me :)

Ruffled Ribbon Flower

Hello! If you  saw my previous blog post, I shared how to color ribbon or seam binding then make a ruffle out of it. Today I thought I would show how to make some easy ribbon flowers using the ruffled ribbon.


I also wanted to share my entry in the Word Art Wednesday Challenge.
They are a great site that offers great printable quotes and scriptures. I am actually using last week's verse because I planned this but did not get to make my cards in time. (ha)

I share two different ribbon flowers in the video. On the card above, I just took the ruffled ribbon and wrapped it onto a card stock circle that I put adhesive on. Then I added a pearl.


For the base of the card, I stamped (yes, I stamped :) and inked plain white card stock with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink. The middle layer was inked, embossed, then I rubbed the ink pad direct to paper. (Here is a link to a 4 minute video showing that technique) 


For the other flowers below, I gathered a short piece of seam binding and formed a circle. Then added a pearl. The leaves are the same technique but in a smaller version.


I used the same embossing & inking technique on this card.

I am entering the first card in the Word Art Wednesday challenge.

Cross Cards

I have been playing with my pain patches again. I ddded alcohol inks, then embossed them. 
(Cuttlebug  Musical Flourish and Tiffany in picture above) Then I went over the raised areas by rubbing a black pigment ink pad directly over the embossed portions. When I wipe the black ink off with a baby wipe, the black ink takes the alcohol ink underneath it away. The silver foil shines through and creates a really cool effect.

I also made a new cross cut file. I got the inspiration from a tattoo style cross. It is hard to see all the detail in the silver foil paper. Here is a picture of the cross.

Here are a few more cards I made.

The panel on the left side is what the foil paper looks like when it has been inked and embossed. I used a Sizzix TH Texture Fade there. It gives a wonderful deep impression.

I used the same Texture Fade folder on the background here. I embossed the blue card stock then wiped the top with a silver chalk ink. I edged the embossed panel with a cool new Prismacolor Metallic Silver  pen. It covered the area perfectly even though it was uneven from the embossing. 

I used a Cuttlebug folder. Grace's Frame, around the sentiment.

I think I have given the sentiment out before, but here it is again if anyone wants it. You can right click it and save it to your computer then open it in a picture editing program.

Inking embossed paper

Hey there! I have one last heart shaped box to show. (Hope you are not tired of them yet)
This is the one I made in the video on my last post.

The matching card is in front and the box lid is behind it. The bottom of the box is peeking through in the very back.


I made a video about how I decorated the boxes. The assembly video ran so long that I did not include it.

While I had everything out, I went ahead and did a short video on how to ink the embossed area like I did on this card.

I am entering this box in the Decorate to Celebrate -  Valentine challenge (Thanks Rhonda:)

Heart of Gold

My hubby got a bag of Godiva chocolate truffles to put in my stocking this past Christmas. (Yep, he did good) Of course, I shared the chocolates with him. Between the two of us, we finished it off a few days ago. (hey, one month is better than one week, right?) Well, the bag that they came in was so pretty that I just had to find something to craft with it.

It had beautiful foil pink and gold colors on it, but it also had a lot to writing all over it. I decided that    I could get several small paper punches out of it.

Here is a card I made using the punched hearts. (There are 4 pink hearts and 1 gold heart)

The inside reads, "You have a heart of gold." 

It is clean and simple, but I like it. :)
